I am very inch an independent being. I know what I want, and I strive to possess what I deserve. When you are a single mom, you learn to rely on no one but yourself. You become a strong fortress that offers protection in case of a storm. Among your friends, you are probably the one with a sound mind that can gives advice, or the reliable hand that helps anyone who falls.
One of the disadvantages of being strong willed (believe it or not there is a disadvantage), is that everyone thinks you are able to handle anything that comes your way
But even strong people get tired. Yes we gulp hardwork and challenges for breakfast, and like any mortal we need to pause and breath in between.
I may have been a single Mom for over 20 years, but I don’t think I can get this far without the love and support of the people around. Yes, it can be lonely, at times I feel I work too hard, I no longer have time for my own needs, the list of complains can go on and on, but once I come home to my daughter, the world instantly turns into a magical place.
Who cares if I had to swallow curse words from my clients? So what if I stood at the MRT station only to get smashed upon entering the train. The harsh reality is immediately thrown off the window upon her sight. Her mere presence puts optimism back in place. Yes, there is always hope in this wonderful world.
It’s amazing how someone so young can actually be my driving force, the sole reason why I was constantly inspired to do my best. Through the years, that small voice that brings the sunshine to my stress filled day, is now a full grown med student with a life of her own.
She still relies on me on a lot of things (thank God!) but she has managed to carve her own path. I must say she inherited my independence, but she is still my sunshine, my hope, my partner in this journey, the breath of fresh air that is glued to my heart forever.
Touching stories of Lifetime partnerships is the force behind Sun Life Financial’s newest campaign. Dubbed “Kaakbay” the launch includes videos featuring celebrities Piolo Pascual, Inigo Pascual, Enchong Dee, Matteo Guldicelli, and Charo Santos Concio.

The celebrities talked about that influential person that filled their lives with love and inspiration.
‘it was a very emotional experience developing my video with Sun Life,” Enchong confessed. “When i saw the finished product, i couldn’t help but cry.”
Matteo had the same sentiment. ”This is it as real as it gets. The authenticity of emotions was clearly captured in the videos, and I look toward to sharing it with everyone,” he said.
Meanwhile, Charo marveled at the experience of sharing her own story. “Seeing an important part of my life immortalized through the video brought back so many memories that I share with my lifetime partner,” she said. “It was unnerving at first but in the end, it was a beautiful way to pay tribute to someone who impacted my life in so many ways.”
Through the stories of lifetime partnerships shared by Piolo, inigo, Enchong. Matteo, and Charo, Sun Life hopes to encourage Filipinos to find that partner who will help them shine to their full potential. “Their stories exemplify the kind of partner Sun Life aims to be for every Filipino pursuing his financial journey,” Sun Life Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa said. ”We are committed to helping them make life brighter.”

The ‘Kaakbay” videos will be posted on Sun Life’s Youtube channel, @SunLifePH, with a new one premiering every week beginning July 13. Those who will watch the videos will get a chance to win a trip for two to Singapore by sharing their own stories of lifetime partnership on @SunLifePH on Youtube or Facebook. Meanwhile, the soundtrack for the campaign, also entitled “Kaakbay‘ which was written and performed by Inigo himself, will soon be hitting airwaves nationwide, while its music video will be shown on Myx. ”It’s a song you can dedicate to an important person in your life,” he said. ”We don’t always tell our loved ones how much we appreciate them, but I hope that this song and our own ‘Kaakbay’ videos will inspire everyone to express just how much their loved ones mean to them.”
